When you're ready to dip your toes into island life, flip-flop down to the crystal-clear waters of the pebble bay for a swim (fifty metres away) – the snorkelling is outstanding here, and there's an anchorage if you fancy taking to the sea by boat. Or carry on into the old town's wander-worthy streets, just four kilometres away. Its medieval walls guard a labyrinth of lanes dotted with ancient squares, churches, palaces and bustling konobas for atmospheric evening meals, just like you imagined.
